Today the production of seamless tubes is concentrated in the hands of a very small number of producers. Tubes of the same size can be produced more economically by using high wear resistant rolls made of powdermetallurgically produced high speed steel and cemented carbides.

Manufacturing
The company Saar-Hartmetall und Werkzeuge GmbH offers tube rolls made of PM-SARAMET 9 and 10 alloys as well as TC rolls SARAMANT VG 627, VG 61, VN 77 and VN 76.

As only a small volume of the roll itself is the actual working area and the larger part of the roll is used for clamping and mounting, the rolls made of tungsten carbide as a SARACOM type become very attractive.

Applications
Our high wear resistant tube rolls are able to roll at speed range from at 1-50 m/sec and can be machined with ceramic or CBN turning tools.
The cooling of the pass surface has to start right after the contact with the hot roll stock and the layout of the cooling system should be based on the technical experience with tungsten carbide rolls used in intermediate stands.
